Costa Rica Map
The Costa Rica map shows in the North, the border with Nicaragua. Also you can see there the lowlands of the lago de Nicaragua. On clear days you can see from for example from hilltops in San Carlos (Cuidad Quesada)the lowlands starting in Costa Rica and continuing all the way to lago Nicaragua itself.
The only important border to Nicaragua is the border at Penas Blancas. All traffic to and from Nicaragua has to pass this border. The area of Penas Blancas is also a protected Nature area.
In the South there is the border with Panama. Especially the border close to the Panamese town of David is important for the traffic between Costa Rica and Panama. Where there is only one official border with Nicaragua at Penas Blancas, with Panama there are two officially used borders. But the border near to David is the most important one.
The other borders are the Pacific and the Atlantic ocean. On the Atlantic side, in Costa Rica much more referred to as the Caribean side, Puerto Limon is an important Harbour. Its by far the largest harbor in Costa Rica. The Caribean port of Limon is only rivaled on the Pacific side by Puerto Caldera. Since Costa Rica has an extensive coastline on both Pacific and Caribean side, there is quite some border-patrol from stations along the complete coast of Costa Rica. These stations observe vessels that enter the Costarican coast outside the ports of Limon and Caldera.
